The Suburban Treasure Trail was an Avant-Gardening project developed in collaboration with Stanley Picker Gallery, Kingston. Working with local communities we explored the area and the gallery itself through a programme of activities and interventions.
The programme concentrated on routes to the gallery and the people who live or work along these routes. The programme evolved organically, responding to the interests and concerns of the people who joined in with the project, from the local school to the gallery's immediate neighbours. The project culminated with an exhibition of documentation and artefacts collected and created during the project and the participants helped to curate the show working with the artists to make a dynamically evolving exhibition that invited participation and contribution.
The text below gives a flavour of some of the events and acivities leading up to the exhibition; which used maps - from the literal to the abstract - as the focal point. A selection of the maps created can be seen here
